LYL Realty Presents: Temple Choice Eats, Volume 1

Living near Temple campus this year? Are you interested in the different types of food available to you in the area? If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve answered yes to both of these questions! This is the first installment of Temple Choice Eats brought to you by LYL Realty Group. We want to give you a chance to learn about some interesting and quality foods that you can get near campus. Everyone knows where the normal fast food spots are so we’re not going to bore you with any of that, instead we want to enrich your palette with some of our favorite tastes in the area!

  1. Helm (1303 N 5th Street)  – Helm is a contemporary American BYOB spot highlighting seasonal ingredients from local urban farms. An ever-changing blackboard menu ensures the farmers’ freshest bounty. In their first venture together, chefs Kevin D’Egidio and Michael Griffiths are drawing from their fine dining background with this casual, upbeat and exciting restaurant. Some of our personal favorites on the menu are the Gnocchi, Pickled Broccoli, Sunchokes (also known as Jerusalem Artichoke), and the swordfish!
  1. Las Cazuelas (426 W Girard) –  Las Cazuelas has been around for over 15 years and cooks up delicious mexican fare with some wild card options that’ll keep you coming back until you try the whole menu! There’s lovely outside dining and they can handle large groups without a problem. It’s BYOB and also has some excellent vegetarian options! Some of our favorites are the seitan tacos, shrimp quesadillas, jalapenos bravos (jalapenos stuffed with cheese, tuna or chicken!), corn on the cob w/chipotle mayo, lime, and cojita cheese
  1. Santucci’s (655 N Broad St.) – Looking to feel like you’ve traveled abroad without leaving the comfort of Philadelphia? Dinner is a casual but rather splendid affair with choices of dishes that capture sumptuous Italian cuisine. This is the first of the famous Philly-style square pizza! Santucci’s cookie-sheet-baked pies have roots in the old country baked on rectangular cookie sheets, hence the roots of this thin, Sicilian-style, cheese-on-the-bottom, sauce-on-the-top pizza. For dessert there is a decadent selection of house made options. Ricotta Cheesecake, Cinnamon Bread Pudding, served warm, Chocolate Chip stuffed Cannolis and Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies complemented with Little Baby’s Ice cream seem to exemplify what Santucci’s has to offer. Also, this location has a bar that serves up delicious and reasonably priced cocktails that pair beautifully with the food!
